The hive must be strong this evening, because what did I happen to be listening to the moment I saw this post? “Samba Braguez,” Os Korimbas, Angola Soundtrack — The Unique Sound of Luanda
Geraldo Pino And The Heartbeats - Power To The People
Geraldo Pino is a Legend in African music as a whole. He introduced funk and soul to the west African nations so successfully that he became the biggest African star (inside Africa) of late ’60s. He influenced even Fela Kuti. Please, listen to this song and understand why..
There is a repress of the original 1970’s LP (which is almost impossible to find) by Soundway.

Nana Ampadu & African Brothers International - Self Reliance
The African Brothers released many psychedelic afrobeat albums since 1963 in Ghana. There is a story too big to be written here behind this group but you can find it in this link.
The song Self Reliance is included in the compilation Ghana Soundz.
Tony Allen & Afrobeat 2000 - N.E.P.A.
N.E.P.A. normally means Nigerian Electrical Power Authority but, Tony Allen here uses it as Never Expect Power Always, due to the continuous power cuts of the time in Lagos (1984). During this 12” Allen was working in London with King Sunny Ade and you can see his juju influence in Allen’s Afrobeat. For me, the moment of the xylophone here, is one of the greatest of Afrobeat history. Tony Allen is a Huge Drummer!
